Empowering Youth
And Families

Youth impacted by the criminal justice system have a significant risk for mental health and substance use disorders. These disorders can include attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Early prevention, intervention, and educational programs can help to prevent and reduce the risk for more serious mental health and substance use disorders. Effective programs for justice-impacted youth increase motivation, coping skills, family involvement, education, and access to interventions and treatment. Youth benefit from positive role models and opportunities in the community to achieve success and develop healthy relationships and support systems.

Enhancing Motivation
Is Key With Youth

It is important to note that there is no single "silver bullet" for preventing youth from re-offending. The most effective approach is likely to involve a combination of different programs and services. By providing youth with the support they need, we can help them overcome the challenges they face and build a brighter future. Programs that enhance motivation, address multiple risk and protective factors, include family, and use cognitive-behavioral interventions have been found effective with justice-impacted youth.

Family Involvement
And Support

Youth behavior is influenced by multiple factors including family, school, peers, social media, and the community. Key to positive outcomes with justice-impacted youth is providing support and training for parents. Providing families and parents with the tools they need to effectively address the challenges of raising teens is key to success with this population. At Beacon, we provide complimentary consultations for parents and coaching services for justice-impacted youth.
